About the site

Generalities

This site was created as a personal challenge: I wanted to see how big of an application I could build in a single weekend.

I had a few ideas in my head but wanted to see what HDSLR users actually needed so I sent an email to my blog (www.canon5dtips.com) mailing list and asked what kind of application they would need to boost their business.

I received about 10 ideas, some of these were way out of the scope of what was possible to do in a weekend but the others all revolved around the same theme: helping them get either clients, experience or people to help them shoot gigs. It only took a long traffic jam on my way back home to scaffold the site concept and I started coding the following weekend.

Of course, I got my estimates wrong and it took me the equivalent of two weekends to complete the app but I am quite happy with the result.

Technicalities

The site is build using the Ruby on Rails framework and hosted on Heroku. It approximately 2 weekends to built, most of the time spent on figuring out how to present the information in the best possible way.
